Marine Innovation Southern Australia (MISA) partners have collectively spent $25.8 million on marine science capability including infrastructure and staff in the five years to 2009, with the State Government contributing $13.7 million.  This additional capability has led to increased funding for targeted research.

Activities are focused at the South Australian Aquatic Sciences Centre (SAASC) at West Beach in the metropolitan area of Adelaide; the Lincoln Marine Science Centre (LMSC) at Port Lincoln on SA’s Eyre Peninsula; and the SA Aquatic Biosecurity Centre (SAABC) at the University of Adelaide's Roseworthy Campus.
