MRV Ngerin
The MRV Ngerin is South Australia’s largest marine research vessel, and is used on a number of MISA-related projects.
The Ngerin, an Aboriginal word for ‘good fishing,’ has been working the coastal and offshore waters from the border of Western Australia to Victoria for the past 20 years.
The SARDI vessel is 25 metres long, has a crew of four and can accommodate up to 12 scientific staff on any expedition up to 14 days with a range of 3000 Nautical miles.
Cruises vary from coastal environment and ecological work through to monitoring fish stocks. Oceanographic surveys have also been undertaken, from the south-east of Kangaroo Island out to the Continental Shelf and through to the Western Australian border. Much work is also done documenting the community structure of the sea floor.
