Current Work:
Ongoing: To facilitate continued trade access to the EU, AQIS as the central Competent Authority, has issued SARDI with delegated authority to provide an official residue testing program on product that is intended to be exported out of Australia.
This EU market access program involves: liaising with Industry and AQIS to develop sector plans appropriate for export to the EU. Setting up contractual arrangements between SARDI and AQIS as well as laboratories and Industry sectors. Developing sampling plans specific for each industry. On–farm collection of samples. Coordinating the provision of analytical testing as well as reporting and detailing results back to Industry and AQIS.
Research Projects:
February–April: Residue testing program for chemical residues in Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi).
February–May: Residue testing program for chemical residues in Bore Water.
June–September: Residue testing program for chemical residues in Jade Perch.
May–November: Production of the Southern Bluefin Tuna information booklet as an extension of the Aquafin CRC project 2.1 and FRDC project 2004/206 Management of Food Safety Hazards in Farmed Southern Bluefin Tuna to Exploit Market Opportunities. Information from the final report was used to produce an information document that relays details of the projects findings, outcomes, research partners, as well as an overview of SARDI and its capabilities. The document was translated into Japanese, simplified Chinese, and traditional Chinese and collated into a universal handbook. Hardcopies were printed and distributed to industries bodies, government authorities and relevant embassies, as well as to research partners. An electronic copy of the booklet is available on the www.sbtuna.com website.
